Update

I started my Fast on Monday night at about 9:30pm. I am trying for 7 days in total. In the first few days it will be water only, depending how I feel. I may switch to a Juice Fast if my energy level sinks too low.

Tuesday morning I weighed 198. Only water and non-caffeniated tea so far, although I did take some vitamins this morning. I actually feel pretty good so far, decent energy, did a short trainer ride this morning. Have been drinking A LOT of water. Weighed about 193 this morning, and I don't think I am dehydrated. They experts say to expect weight loss of anywhere from 1-3 pounds.

Five pound seems like a lot, but when I consider how many calories I can consume in a typical day (food, alcohol, etc.) and not gain ANY weight, it does not seem so impossible.

I will update later.

PLEASE be careful with your diet/fasting. In addition to increasing your water intake to make up for the water you're no longer getting from food, make sure you are getting enough sodium and electrolytes or you could be at risk for hyponatremia (which can be fatal).

There are 3500 calories in a pound of body fat, so unless you've been running a huge calorie deficit (or taken a HUGE dump) you may be under hydraded.

I would consult with a doctor, nutritionist, coach, trainer, etc. I'm not sure if the possible benefits from your fast out weigh the risks involved.

Thanks for your comments and concern Gary. I don't trust doctors but have read a lot on the internet and talked to any people who have successfully completed similar Fasts.

Hyponatremia usually occurs when too much liquid is ingested at which point you essentially dilute your sodium and electrolyte levels.

Part of the reason for the Fast is to elminate addictions that I have to caffeine, crappy food, alchohol, etc.

Just get a simple garden hose and tak e the nozzle off the end and insert the end you know where and have your wife turn it on full blast for about 5 minutes, helluva lot cheaper than over the counter or internet stuff, you'll feel like a new man in no time!
